Study reveals diabetes may be treated using eye implants

Swedish researchers have developed a microscale device that can be implanted in the eye to treat diabetes and other diseases. The 3D-printed device encapsulates insulin-producing cells with electronic sensors and can be positioned in the eye without the need for sutures. The device maintains its position in the eye for several months and allows for the integration and normal functioning of the encapsulated cells. The technology overcomes the need for invasive methods to monitor the cells' function and opens up possibilities for more advanced medical microdevices in the future.
